About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior OpenShift Administrator to be instrumental in supporting the infrastructure that underpins mission-critical digital services for a major Australian Government agency. Your role involves the monitoring, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and ongoing administration of Red Hat OpenShift clusters—particularly in on-premises environments. You will work closely with developers and other ICT professionals to deliver scalable and secure containerised application solutions that align with government service delivery standards.
You will lead and participate in OpenShift-related initiatives, mentor junior team members, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to ensure reliable and high-performing cloud infrastructure. This is a long-term engagement with the flexibility to adapt to the evolving resourcing needs of the agency.
Salary Range
Salaries for Senior OpenShift Administrator roles range from $140k to $190k including super. Contract rates range from $1,000 to $1,600 per day.
Key Responsibilities
Design, deploy, and maintain OpenShift or Kubernetes clusters, ensuring high availability and performance.
Support developers in automating containerised application deployments using GitOps and CI/CD pipelines.
Perform in-place cluster upgrades, resource management, and capacity planning.
Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Helm.
Apply robust security practices including network segmentation and RBAC.
Lead project execution, mentor junior engineers, and manage timelines.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technology with business goals.
Document systems, processes, and share operational knowledge.
Provide occasional on-call and after-hours support as needed.
Skills and Experience
Security Clearance: NV1 (Minimum) required
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Business, or a related field
Strong experience managing Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes in enterprise settings
Proficiency in DevOps tooling: GitOps, CI/CD, Ansible, Terraform, Helm
Deep understanding of security protocols for containerised environments
Demonstrated leadership in technical project delivery and mentoring
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience in government or large-scale ICT environments is highly desirable
